The IELTS test has four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking, lasting a total of 2 hours 45 minutes. Listening, Reading, and Writing are taken on the same day without breaks, while Speaking may be scheduled on the same day or up to a week before/after
Listening (30 minutes): Listen to 4 recordings of native English speakers and answer questions.
Reading (60 minutes): Complete 3 sections, based on Academic or General Training modules.
Writing (60 minutes): Finish 2 tasks—an essay and a report or letter.
Speaking (11–14 minutes): A face-to-face interview with a certified examiner.
Total test duration: Approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes.

IELTS on Computer: Take the test on a computer and get your results faster—usually within 2 to 5 days.
IELTS on Paper: The traditional pen-and-paper test, with results available in about 13 days.
IELTS Online: For the Academic test only, available in selected locations, letting you take the exam comfortably from home.

IELTS uses a 9-band scoring system, where scores range from Band 1 (Non-user) to Band 9 (Expert user).
Section-wise Scoring
Each section is scored separately:
Listening: Band score from 1–9
Reading: Band score from 1–9
Writing: Band score from 1–9
Speaking: Band score from 1–9

Overall band score is the average of the four section scores.
The average is rounded to the nearest 0.5 or whole band.
Example:
Listening 7.5
Reading 7.0
Writing 6.5
Speaking 7.0
➡️ Average = 7.0
➡️ Overall Band Score = 7.0

Band 9: Expert user
Band 8: Very good user
Band 7: Good user
Band 6: Competent user
Band 6: Competent user
(Most universities require Band 6.0–7.5, depending on the course.)
